TaylorMade Spider Tour Red vs Spider EX: Which Putter Should You Buy?
The Spider line is arguably TaylorMade's most tour-proven putter shape: a wide, high-MOI mallet built for a straighter stroke and more predictable rolls. Two versions sit close together on the used market: the classic Spider Tour Red and the newer Spider EX. The shape is nearly identical. The feel is not.

What's Actually the Same
Both putters share the Spider family's core design principles: a wide, wing-shaped mallet head for high forgiveness on off-centre hits, a deep counterbalanced feel for a smoother tempo, and TaylorMade's True Path alignment system to help you square the face consistently at setup. If you already putt well with a Spider-shape head, either model will feel immediately familiar.
What's Actually Different
The Spider Tour Red is the more classic version of the shape. The high-contrast red and white colourway was specifically designed to make alignment easier to see at address, and it's the version most closely associated with tour play over the years. It has a firmer, more traditional milled-feel face.
The Spider EX is the newer evolution, built around Fluted Feel face technology: a series of fluted grooves milled into the face insert designed to soften the sound and feel at impact without changing roll consistency. If you've found older Spider models feel a touch firm or "clicky," the EX is a noticeably softer strike.
